Marco Lavagna Resigns as Director of Argentina's INDEC

Buenos Aires, Feb 2 (NA) – After resigning as director of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec), Marco Lavagna thanked this Monday for “the messages and greetings received” and assured that “it was a privilege to have been at the helm” of the statistical body. “Thank you for all the messages and greetings. A new stage opens,” highlighted the economist on his X social media account. Marco Lavagna's message after leaving INDEC. “It was a true privilege to have led INDEC and to have worked alongside a team so committed to the production of public statistics,” he stated. The resignation of Lavagna has generated uncertainty in the agency just days before the first inflation data is to be released, and precisely when his administration had worked to finalize a new measurement methodology. The now former official, who took office on December 30, 2019, during Alberto Fernández's government, led a stage characterized by continuity in the normalization of public statistics with a sense of transparency in management. His departure coincides with a crucial technical moment: the launch of the renewed Consumer Price Index (IPC).
